The Envelope Privacy Policy
The Envelope helps you write down what your family would need to know if something happened to you. It is built so that nothing you write ever leaves your phone unless you send it somewhere yourself.
What the app collects
Nothing. There are no accounts, no sign-in, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking. The app has no servers. Everything you write is stored only on your device, in the app's own protected storage, and is deleted when you delete the app.
What the app asks you to write
Where things are and who to contact: names, phone numbers, the bank by name, where the will is kept. The app never asks for a password, a PIN, a card number or a full account number, and has no field for them.
Face ID and passcode
If you turn on the lock, the app asks iOS to confirm it is you with Face ID, Touch ID or your iPhone passcode. Apple's system does the checking. The app never sees your face data or your passcode.
Printing, sharing and backups
When you print or share the document, the PDF is created on your device and handed to the printer, app or person you choose through the standard iOS share sheet. The same is true of the backup file, which is encrypted with a passphrase you choose and that the app does not keep. Where those files go after that is under your control, not ours.
Reminders
If you ask to be reminded to check the envelope, the reminder is a local notification scheduled on your phone. Nothing is sent anywhere to make it happen.
Purchases
The optional unlock is sold through Apple's App Store. Apple handles the payment and keeps the purchase record. The app checks with Apple whether the unlock has been bought; it never sees your name, payment details or Apple Account. Apple's own privacy policy applies to that transaction.
Network use
The only connection the app makes is to Apple's App Store to read the price of the unlock and confirm purchases.
Children
The app is rated 4+ and collects no information from anyone, of any age.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be published at this address with a new effective date.
